Thank you for maintaining this website. It is a wonderful asset. I wanted to let you know that the website address for Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site of Canada has changed. It is now www.pc.gc.ca/fisgardlighthouse . You may wish to update this link.

I have just found your web site again. My mother's family spent a number of years on the Cape St James Lighthouse, off the west coast of British Columbia. I am looking forward to reading the book that is being researched on the Cape.......

Smooth sailings my friends....may the wind be always on your stern and the sun on your face......

Thank you for the beautiful pictures. My mother has passed on her love of lighthouses to me. What is it that draws us? Is it the seclusion, the beauty of the surroundings, the hope that one light could guide a soul? I am unsure of just exactly what it is that attracts me to a lighthouse, but I hope to pass it on to my daughter as well.

I just learned of this site and have found it very interesting. I served as a weather observer at Estevan Point from 1969 to 1977. During that time I worked with four different lightkeepers plus many juniors. My wife (Sharon) and I have many happy memories of our years at Estevan.

I enjoyed looking over many of the lighthouses.
I use to go with my father many years ago while we lived in Prince Rupert to pick up supplies for various familys. Vern Dodds worked out in Seal Cove for the Department of Transport in 1967-1973.

OK, so I have a comprehensive list for Cape St. James from 1914-37, a fuzzy area 37-40 due lost file in natarchives, good for 40-50, missing temp keepers in 50 (3 of them!) and fairly good for the 50's, Radio Ops and Keepers., and complete for 1960- closure 92. Any (other station records) info re Snetsinger, George Ross; Kelly, James Neil, Fitzgerald, Herb. And anyone out there who was Lk family on nrn lights should WRITE everything down and send it to "us". Too much has been lost already.

Looking for any and all people who served on Cape St. James at any time: civilian and military (1943-45) Am in touch with R. L'Ecuyer (pinetreeline). Anyone one who served on Cape who has not contact me, please drop me a line. I was on Cape 1986~92 and langara as temp assist 1992/3

have been working on history of CSJ 1914-1992 for lo - these 17 years. Too much missing stuff in nat archvies, etc. and all our logs were on Digby when the burning occurred.

jas a. c. derham-reid   -   west vancouver    2004-09-13    E-mail jas a. c. derham-reid

are there any long-term records on any of the northern stations which did not get burned in the Digby fire, in '60??? looking for any traces of temp keepers who were on Cape St. James in 1950. May have been macarthur (who was at bonilla at one time) and perhaps james milton, who was the youngest of the 3 father/son/grandson west coast keepers. Anyone ever hear of a keeper name "Mr. diggens" or the like. He as on Cape 1951/3 but my early 50's Cape radio Ops cannot recall his full name now.

Message from the the Webmaster:

We are starting right now to compile a list of BC lighthouse keepers from the beginning until the present. We need names of lightkeepers, dates (approx. is good), lighthouses, and if possible, the names of other known keepers on station at same time.

Please forward the information to John Coldwell and he will compile it into the database. (Click here to send a message.)

In a few weeks it will be loaded onto this website. You will be able to search the database for lightleepers or lighthouses, and print the results.

If you have any questions about this project, please e-mail John Coldwell or myself.

my family and I lived on the lighthouses in the early 1970's . I t was a wonderful way to live. Last week I had the pleasure of taking a trip down the coast on the - Queen of the North- I was able to see again after 30 years the lights I lived - I cried when I saw them because of the wonderful memories they bring. Thanks for being there still.

Excellent site. I have a fascination with light houses and this website is great. I know I will have questions coming in the future on some of the lighthouses around Nanaimo, so if anyone is out there with lots of data, let me know. Thanks

I've just retired after over 30 years working the BC coast lighthouses. My last station was McInnes Island (over 25 years). It was a very fascinating job and this website shows the lights in their full glory. Very well done!

I still have some contact with the lighthouse people, and If I can help or refer in any way, then drop me a line.

I have always been fascinated by lighthouses as i have been on the ferry from prince rupert to port hardy several times. The white structures and red roofs add beautiful colors to the coastal environs. I would like to know more about Mcinnes Island Light near Bella Bella and how the island got it's name. Thanks
