Hi......tending a lighthouse would suit me to a tee.
The appeal for me is the solitude such a position would bring.
This is my first time to the site so still have some exploring to do....
thanks for being here.....kate

I used to live at Estevan Point and later Digby Island. At that time my father was OIC of the radio station there.

I met the light house keeper from Dryad Point on a train in Victoria Australia. He was going to visit his mother who lives in Australia, and I had just returned from an overseas trip and was heading home.
We spent a very happy time talking during the train trip and then he sent me this web site so I could see where he lived. What a lovely place for anyone to live.
Thankyou for an insight into your beautiful country.

I grew up on Ivory (1944) and Lawyer Islands (1953). My Dad and Mom where lighthouses keepers. Myself and two of my brothers were homeschooled for years.
It was a life that I would not have changed. Though it is a very lonely life. I have been relief Light Keeper on Lawyer and Langara.

Anyone knowing whereabouts of Gordon Milum, once of Albert Head Light, please leave a note in the G/Book. The G. Milum in the Vr directory is his g/mother and she doesn't know where he is.

I just discovered this website and love it. I am taking oil painting classes and want to paint lighthouses. My problem is that I must get permission to paint from other peoples photographs. If anyone has a photo that you took and wouldn't mind a beginner painter painting, possibly to sell, it would be greatly appreciated. You can email it to me. Thanks!

Dear Friends,

we would like to introduce you the illustrated book THE ARCHITECTURE OF ITALIAN LIGHTHOUSES by Cristiana BARTOLOMEI.
The present volume, The Architecture of Italian Lighthouses, inaugurates a series of publications celebrating these symbols of safety through a detailed and illustrated study of their typological and architectural features.
An illustrated catalogue of 45 lighthouses, still working today along the Adriatic and the Ionian coasts. The book describes them, for the first time, with measured drawings and original illustrations, pointing out typologies and materials. Other forthcoming volumes will introduce the reader to lighthouses along the Tyrrhenian coasts, on the Isle of Sardinia, and other smaller islands.
The album is a luxe large-format (24 x 30 cm.) publication, in hard cover, with more than 300 photographs, written in English and Italian too. It is printed on top-quality paper and all its pages are in full colour: the package includes a special edition of bookmarks, postcards and calendars. We shall be pleased to send you information and some sample images of this unique publication.
This is a very useful book not only for those with a special interest in the world’s lighthouses network, but also for all those interested in the architectural heritage; so we invite you on a special journey along our coasts: surprise, charm and discovery await you.
If you like to enjoy these magnificent illustrations of Italian lighthouses available in this limited edition, please contact us or visit the web-site www.italianlighthouses.com
We look forward to an early response and thank you for your interest.
Yours sincerely,

The Italian Lighthouses Staff

I am a quilter and am looking at Lighthouses for my next project. Wonderful and interesting pictures, something that I can draw from to create a pleasing wallhanging.

Ferried to Victoria from Port Angeles yesterday. We are lighthouse guides/interpretors along the Oregon coast during summer months. Saw Trial Island and wished I could have visited it. Which BC lighthouses can be visited? I have a quest.

My paternal grandfather Alex Mc/Leod was lighthouse keeper at Brockton Point and drowned while going to change the light at Calamity Point in 1940. Dad & Mom lived in the beautiful keepers house, and Mom used to help my grandfather fire the 9 oclock gun.I have a few pictures ,but don't know much at all about my dad's parents-my grandparents. If you have pictures, names, memories, please let me know. thankyou

I lived in a house trailer while on a field assignment providing precise navigation for Shell Oil's SEDCO135F oil rig and also the Miss Helen, their exploration ship. Our Trailer was brought in by helicopter and placed directly below the fog horn at the Estivan Lighthouse. This was a great location, but on foggy days I would have rather been somewhere else. I spent 3 & 1/2 months there in the the fall of 1967. I was very lucky to be in the company of such great people as the 3 keepers and their families. It is a time of my life I'll never forget. Beachcombing was my favorite passtime while there. There were lots of beatiful beaches. The plumes of crashing waves on the rocks will be will me forever.
I picture it as the kind of place that will remain in beautiful isolation for all eternity.

Interesting website, I had no idea there were so many lighthouses on the coast, all are treasures and hopefully kept in a state of repair. Sentinels of the past are an important part of our future. DMH.

Fans of BC Lighthouses should visit this site. Sidney artist Graham Scholes has produced wood block prints of the ramaining BCc Light stations, see at www.woodblock.info

Also, anyone using radar 'site' pinetreeline.org will be sad to hear the Ren L'Ecuyer died at home in Mexico July 23. He will be missed - he did an enormous amount of research, and often worked on his site 10 to 12 hours a day.

I was on the WCT and at the Carmanah Lighthouse on 5/13/05. I barely read and now am very curious about the meteorite and maze on the lighthouse grounds. Did I read right? Is it a meteorite and did the caretakers just have some fun building a maze around it? Its a beautiful lighthouse and grounds and the WCT was challenging but fulfilling. Thanks Canada!

I watched a program on tv today about the langara lighthouse. I found it very fascinating!! I love the story on how the couple met, and that they have one son who seems to enjoy his way of life. I thought it was cool when he hand fed the deer!! I just think these three people are pretty amazing. it's unfortunate that they only get mail once a month and that they have no email. I think it would be awesome to to have a pen pal out that way. I would like to tell them thank you for letting me into their lives and the way they live. I truly enjoyed the program.
